recycle, reuse, redemption?

meaningless
are the coins
that tumble from your hand
pointless
the precious metals
that adorn you
useless
the expensive clothes
which wrap around you like a funeral shroud

the earth bleeds
from the steel you thrust into its heart
it smothers
from the concrete and asphalt covered
over wounds carved
to gather ores and coals
lime and sands
the earth chokes
from the filth you make

but the earth
goes on
and you
do not
and upon your foul corpse
it feeds

One

There once was a man
who walked desert sands
so long ago.
He talked to those he met
telling stories and guiding them.
He spoke one word
more often than any other.

Today there are many men
who walk many lands
in his name.
They preach to those they meet
blinding them and silencing them.
They speak many words
as they say their way is better than any other.

But there is only one true way
and although its paths are legion
there is but one key:
Love.

The rain
falls down
so hard
it roars
in pain,
deafening;
smothering
in its agony;
alone
as it streaks
from the sky
like tears;
relenting
for but a moment
before
unleashing
a torrent
of cries;
washing away
its sins;
until,
in hushed
repentance,
it withdraws.

a quick drink

a quick drink

swallowtail
swooping down
sipping rainwater
fallen
between blades of grass
head over heels,
or antenna over tail,
wings spread wide,
first showing one side
then the other;
dipping down for a drink
before the sun banishes it
or the leaves of grass sip it,
fluttering, then flying away
as the cicadas begin to sing
