Once again, why we home school.
Last Friday, I gave my eldest son a worksheet on determining the differences between a scientific theory, law, and hypothesis. What do you know, a theory has been proven beyond reasonable doubt by multiple unrelated researchers, and can be viewed in repeatable experiments. In other words, it's not pure guesswork, it just is.
Shame they're misguiding hordes more to share in their stupidity. Most of them don't even understand what a theory (in scientific terms) is, let alone what Darwin's particular theory is about.
Heh. Just noticed the little quiz on the above link: "Which theory of the origin of the species should be taught?" Evolution - 25%; Intelligent Design - 2%; Both - 5%; My theory that the USA is rapidly devolving - 67%

Date: 2004-12-01 04:54 pm (UTC)But really, this is horrifying. The science ignorance in this country astounds me. Is science education really that bad? I was lucky to have biology teachers in high school who actually encouraged knowledge in the field. Accurate knowledge, that is.
I hope this gets overturned. It's absolutely ridiculous. It's so ridiculous that for years I refused to be a part of any evolution debate because the idea of comparing evolution to creation or intelligent design (which is just a poor attempt to put a new face on creationism) seemed like such a non-issue to me. After all, an enterprising high school student could definitively debunk most of the claims creationists make. But so many people have such a fundamental misunderstanding of what evolution actually is, or even how science works in general. It's sad.
