Jun. 4th, 2005 10:14 amHad a great day yesterday!
As soon as I got down to the store, I turned around and left, giving Mark a ride over to Enterprise to pick up the 15 passenger van for airport-hotel-venue taxi service. Back at Vyagra, and back on the road; this time driving John's work truck, with Bonesaw riding shotgun, over to the rental place to pick up the tables and chairs and drop them at Crocodile Rocks. One of the first tables gave me a nice monster splinter, but after that, they were well behaved. At the venue, we circled around - after unloading one table in the side alley they decided it would be easier to send us to the back - and, with the help of a couple of stage hands (who, I think, were the booking agent's sons) and a bouncer, we got the tables moved down into the vendor area.
Back at Vyagra, we started loading the cases of cds into the truck. Took a break to get lunch from Wally's Deli - they have these sandwiches called "hogs" which I thought were subs/hoagies/insert-your-regional-name-here, but turned out to be essentially the same thing, but on a sandwich roll that was about 8" square (for the large size.) Finished loading the truck, then back to the venue to unload.
Brought everything down and the ramp into the area, then set up everything on the tables - we had one table for Spitfire and one for the festival/band shirts, and about four or more for the cds/dvds/vinyl from the store.
I went upstairs and caught most of the Twilight Odyssey set, and then back up again for part of Jag Panzer - both bands were excellent, and their performances made for very acceptable birthday presents! As things were winding down, I finally gave in and crossed the aisle to Screaming Ferret Wreckords and asked to play the Nuclear Assault guitar - it will be signed and given away at the end of the show. The remainder of the time I spent talking to people about music - seeing people who I only tend to see at metal festivals - which is the best part!
All in all, 10:00am to 4:00am made for a nice long day, so I'm fairly beat today... as Brown Tom says (or was it Screwball?), "I'm not as old as I used to be!"
