Sep. 25th, 2005 08:13 pmToday, in brief (except where I go on and on, in needless detail):
1. Fertilized the lawn - we had already done half of the "main" front lawn, going up and down parallel to the driveway; finished it off in the other direction today, as well as getting to other areas, and giving a single pass over the island, meadow, Chestnut Grove, and the back lawn.
2. Cleaned the dryer vent. The main blockage was on the "screen" that came with the cleaning kit, to keep the brush from getting into the dryer motor. We don't really need it because a twist of pipe makes it impossible to clean from the outside and get through the last bit to the dryer, but it was a nice extension and made it easier to fasten the vent hose. Unfortunately the screen - which looks like the guard on the back of a 3.5" computer fan - also caught about an inch deep layer of lint that prevented anything from getting blown out of the dryer.
3. Cleaned the air conditioner filter.
4. Checked the smoke alarms.
5. Went back to JC Penny so they could take off the Inktag "Benefit Denial" devices they left on the jeans and one of the two pairs of Dockers. Benefit denial, indeed.
6. Rachel and I went to Celtic Classic aka Celtic Fest or whatever you want to call it. Walked around, just caught the end of the Maureen O'Grady Dance presentation. Watched the Glengarry Pipe Band play a bit - they were in a circle off to the side, probably about ready to get out on the field. We caught a bit of The Barley Boys (I think - the schedule on the website when I went to confirm seems to be different from reality), and another band (which I can't confirm because of the aforementioned problem.) Watched a swordfight and then some fencing at the SCA area, which was over by the Tannery this year, instead of wedged between the back of the Highland Games grandstand and the bus stops. We ate fish & chips and chicken & chips while listening to Seamus Kennedy singing about not picking your nose, humpty back camels, and coal miners. Following up on the coal theme, he did a bit about the Molly Maguires, which basically took place in our back yard - the kids had visited the jail as a field trip a year or two ago. Seamus brought out a friend to do a tune or two, but Rachel decided we should move on. Walked around a bit more, and then headed out.
7. Picked up some presents for Brandon and some of Deb's bowls over at her dad's house (which was where we parked the car for the hike to the fest - should have used my parking pass, and then drove over: that hill is tough when you're not used to it.)
8. Picked up Justin - he stayed at a friend's house in Bethlehem for the weekend (which included a birthday party!)
9. Picked up the pizza fundraiser from Deb's cousin. Next weekend we pick up the pizza fundraiser from Deb's cousin. Two cousins, twice as much Joe Corbi's pizza. Still not as good as Deb's homemade pizza!
10. Went grocery shopping - picked up grapes and kiwi, then called Deb to see what she had actually wanted us to get. "Milk, juice, and food;" that narrowed it down a bit. We decided food meant ice cream as well as something for Deb and Justin for supper - Rachel and I were still full from the food & chips we had earlier. I don't like Edy's except for one flavor - Espresso Chip. In short, yum.
11. Made bad jokes about food & chips when telling Justin about it - said "ships" instead, and pondered about how fish & ships makes sense, but chicken & ships, not so much. Then launched into the Disney Winnie the Pooh song: "I love the life on a piratey ship, sailing the seventy seas, but since we're surrounded by acres of woods we sail on the land through the trees!" and pictured a wheeled boat with a net hanging over the starboard rail, trawling through a field, chickens scrambling and squawking to get out of the way of the net.
12. That's enough for one day, isn't it?
