A photographer just posted this over on the Arborday.org forums... some beautiful pictures of fall color in the southern Sierra... enjoy!

(Meanwhile, we're down to oak leaves and a handful of young trees - everything else has dropped!)

Thank you

It is sometimes very nice to see pictures of where one has grown up.

I miss the god trees.

I'd like to plant some sequoia - not that they'll get to that kind of majesty here on (well, nearish) the east coast, but I figure they'll still look pretty nice for a few hundred to thousand years.

It's not just the sequoia

There are also the coastal redwoods. ;)

You can't plant just one sequoia. You need a small grove. Sequoias like company. Actually, they're more like ferns in that they share a root cluster.

You don't have enough fires to make a seqouia thrive. Remember the four seasons of California; Fire, Flood, Earthquake, and Drought.

You know, I was going to mention the coast redwood - but whereas the sequoia is ok down to zone 6 (maybe 5, but 6 is the key number here), the coast redwood can maybe handle zone 7, which is pushing it for my location.

If my eucalyptus trees survive the winter (which I hope, but don't expect), I may try some of the coast redwood.

Trees here, outside of Boston MA, have hardly turned color -- not been cold enough I guess. It's really strange to see all the trees that surround our back yard -- maples and oaks -- are still green.

Thanks for giving us a way to view these magnificent photos. I further went to the photgraphers home page -- it's worth a check-out; the wildflower page is literally fantastic as he has quite original viewpoints (literally).
