Justin's on an IV, it's a viral infection, "HS" is what Deb got out of them so far. Google-fu still failing me, unless Justin is a salmon or rainbow trout, and then it could be viral hemorrhagic septicemia. Damn you, spammers and paid links - I'm tired, so I'll blame them for skewing the search results from the stuff I actually want to find.

Since I don't have a positive ID on the beastie, I'm not sure what it means for the rest of us, Rachel's school, and my work.

I'm off to bed so at least one of us gets some sleep - they expect to be there for a few hours if not overnight.

Ack - I'm sure it'll be clearer soon what's going on.

We have the correct name now - Henoch-Schönlein purpura (HSP) - but it's got unknown causes and no specific treatment, so we're in the same situation, but different... oy! At least it's common enough that the doctor recognized it right away, we just had trouble getting the name right.

You'd think if they knew enough to give it a name.. HS..
they'd at least tell you *what* HS is.
I hope it's not serious and Justin comes out ok.

It's Henoch-Schönlein purpura (HSP) - it got lost in the original translation. Once Deb heard it a few times, she was able to correct it.

One place had this great advice: "It's a very serious disease. Thankfully, it's uncommon." Which doesn't help if you happen to be uncommon... still, the rash and the arthritis go away without leaving any damage, and mostly everything's okay.

I hope it all turns out fine.
