Oct. 27th, 2005 10:30 pmOne of the best things about kids is they always seem to have perfect timing when they bring up certain things.
"Daddy, should the bone of my arm stick out of the flesh like that? Do you think it's broken?"
or
"Ummm, Dad, can you take a look at these spots. I'm a little bit worried about them. And they itch. And my legs are swelling, it hurts behind my knees, and my hand feels like a fat lip."
I was getting ready for bed when Justin knocks tentatively on the door - he's had these spot things, which until tonight looked like freckles, beauty spots, or whatever other harmless normal things you might call them (I've had about a dozen or more on my arms for as long as I can remember,) for about a week or so. For the last couple days, he's been starting to catch the cold - and as of last night, he lost his voice and seemed to go downhill.
Now Deb is at the emergency room with him, as rasied red spots, swelling, joint pain, the cold-like symptoms, and discoloring of unspotted flesh are all rather unsettling when they begin to peak all at once.
And, as I mentioned to
bellacrow, my google-fu has failed me and I'm unable to find any half decent diagnosis on it to while away the time until I get actual news.
Oy.

Hope your son is OK.

Date: 2005-10-28 05:57 am (UTC)They did look a lot like chicken pox, which Justin did have at a young age, but only a minor case. While looking all this stuff up last night, I was reminded of that old adage "Once you have chicken pox you'll never have it again" in combination with the advice to get it young, when I found out that shingles (which people often say is the adult form of chicken pox) is actually something you get *because* you had chicken pox before. That doesn't help - you serve your time, and when it pops up again it's different, and worse.
He should be OK, though...

Date: 2005-10-28 09:51 am (UTC)Justin's room was in the pediatric area - he was in the bed, and instead of another bed, they had a crib... so she has had little sleep. She says she'll get some sleep once she brings him back, but I'm not sure when that will be.
