Today, in brief

1. Helped Deb's cousin move. Strange thing was, it was a first floor to first floor move, and it didn't rain. Not right. Stairs must be involved, and rain must happen. Much entertainment watching Sheri attempt to drive the standard shift on the UHaul van. Less entertainment value in actually loading it, or having all keys to both places and two vehicles locked into the storage unit for a short time. Unloading went very quickly, despite the fact that we weren't allowed to use Ike the pug for a doorstop to hold the front door open.

2. Relocated the mailbox - this involved digging two holes about 3 feet deep and trying to get a 4x4 with two bags of Quikrete solidified on it out of one of the holes and into the other. The mailbox is now closer to the street, and the postman will no longer have to drive off the road, deepening a rut which increases erosion along the edge of the road.

3. Rachel collected 3 gallons of acorns, all by herself. Only six or eight thousand more to go and that one small area might have a chance of being lawn next year instead of a forest of oak seedlings.

I put them in a pile at the back edge of the property, in an attempt to lure the hooved rodents away from the trees. =)
