So Dies Innocence

You branded me with who I am
And so I become the myself you see in me
Betraying the truth so disbelieved
Yet in my eyes there lies more than darkness of deformity
Do you care to see within the boundaries of ruined flesh
I await you there
The meadows so peaceful, the birdsong in the air
I lumber with awkward gait and dance with fairest maidens of the fay
Lying in the wildflowers breathing Spring surrounding me
What now I hear, not a woodland melody
The voices of my scared and angry friends and family
Holding light aloft on oiled limbs marching in the woods
My distasteful flesh burns the same as any man
As I die by your hands I can only open my eyes wide in wonder
Why, I ask, why, my idiotic mind knows pain where before only love held sway
I crumble in charred pieces and ask what has become of the world I loved so
Mother, for you this rose I picked, and now it is burnt away
Brother, why do you hurt me with the tools we used working side by side
Father, I do not like this game, might we play another
No, I think I can play no more
