I was poking through some tv collections on DVD over at Amazon, and I discovered something that may interest a few folks out there:

The Real Ghostbusters, Vol 1 (5 DVD) is coming out at the end of March, and it's available for pre-order.

I know there's at least one Ghostbusters fan out there who might be reading this... although if I recall, they aren't all that impressed with the cartoon series...

I never watched it, so I have no idea... =)

OMG! Thanks for the head's up on this! I loved the old cartoon series. Had a ton of the toys, too.

I used to watch it, loved it as a kid, thought the stories were rather well written, deep and involved - for a kids show. Can't see my self watching them today though. There were a few cartoons I watched as a kid that could keep my interest now, but I don't think this was one.

I do think it's funny how "Real" got wedged into the shows name after a season or two. Seem like there was a cartoon started based on the original Ghost Busters that wasn't really all that great, but tried to capitalize off of the sucess of the also named, so they inserted "Real" to distinguish their show from the cartoon spin-off of the original.

I had wondered about the "real" designation...

It was a very well written show. The Head Writer/Story Editor for the series was J. Michael Straczynski, who also wrote the episode "The Collect Call of Cathulhu" [spelling intentional]. The show dealt with a lot of myths and folklore from around the world and, while Slimer was annoying and the show often stumbled deep into the kid-pit, it was fun. My only regret was that the show had such an influence on Ghostbusters 2 and watered down the material.

The whole series is available now from Time-Life home video.http://www.timelife.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=1001&productId=75501&langId=-1&catalogId=10001 though it's a bit pricey.

Hmmm... I'm guessing that one regret was what I based my memory of you not liking the series on...

In any case, I knew you were familiar with it! =)
