I don't know how it works in PA, but in Mississippi, it's legal to kill these pests in your yard year round when they're being pests. No hunting license needed. It's considered on par with killing a mouse.

Not here. It is hunting season, so if you can take them legally, you might be able to take them legally in your yard (that all depends on what you're using to take them, if you've baited them, and where your property is). Out of season, though, you can land yourself in jail, or, at the least, fined.

Then again, I'm not a hunter, so my knowledge of the laws are just hearsay.

Oh ugh ... not good at all.

I got to handfeed a fawn earlier this year - it was being rehabbed for release and not taming it was high on the list of rules (which was the only reason I didn't end up him and bringing him home with me - well that and they don't tend to stay small and cute for long!)

Yeah, I think Deb was the most surprised.

Damn thing just turned, looked at her, and trotted right down the path. She backed off, stepping inside, so the deer stopped at the top of the back bank, about 40 feet away or so. I think if she had stayed out there, it would have come right down and up onto the back deck!

Yikes. We had a bird visiting the house I was renting a few years ago that was similar. I can only figure someone in the neighborhood was feeding it. It died an early death at the hands of my cat, unfortunately for it...Should have been more wary of humans and fur covered predators...
