I know there's a few squirrelfans out there - this one's for you! =)

... but don't forget: Squirrels are just rats with good P.R.!

Great photo, thanks for posting it!

You've got it a bit backwards. Just as demons are fallen angels, so too are rats fallen squirrels.

I would agree with you about Gray Squirrels. Douglas Squirrels are love.

Douglas? Douglas?

Everyone knows all squirrels are named Charlie.*

Except my kids, who insist the one out back is named Peter Tom.

In any case, Doug is right out. Did Doug clear his name with the Squirrel Naming Convention Board? =)

* According to my little brother. Who is a big ol' biker. So should be listened to.

** In all seriousness, or as much as I can muster at the moment, I've never met a Douglas Squirrel. Grey, yes. Red, yes. Abert, yes. Douglas - nope!

Hee. Charlie. I'll have to remember that the next time I see one.

Douglas squirrels are red, about the size of a small chipmunk, cuter than anything and they SQUEAK. So adorable. They also love to come close on a tree, skipping across with all four legs locked, and chew the big humans out.

They, Western Grey, and Flying Squirrels are our natives out here. Sadly, the Eastern Greys have chased them out of most areas. I see the the Douglas often in the woods, though. I've also fed a baby flying squirrel. That was awesome.

As far as behavior goes, that sounds like this one - and the Abert ones at the Grand Canyon.

I've never seen an Abert, but would really like to.

Yes, it's squirrel behavior, but I swear these ones are cuter when they do it.

Now, if I could only find one outside a dark forest floor, so that I could get good pictures.
