Nigel Kennedy and Jeff Beck - Hills of Saturn part 2

A good part of Jeff Beck's influence on my playing can be seen in this video - some great closeups showing his right hand techniques.

Unlike most rock guitar legends, Jeff does not use guitar picks. During an early performance, he dropped his pick and stood helplessly on stage, not sure what to do next. He vowed never to be in that position again, and uses a variety of fingerpicking techniques to expand the possibilities of expression.

The 80sness of this clip is a little horrifying regardless of the talent.

godsloveJeff! On stage when I was inna band (before electricity it seems now!) the previous band's keyboard player had broken THREE hammers on the piano there - a "brand new" Yamaha upright - G, B & D middle range - & our first 3 songs were in G major! I LEARNT TO IMPROVISE & INVERT CHORDS THAT NIGHT!

& BTW - when we had finished our set, the drummer & myself FIXED the dowel for all three notes - for no charge! We had AMAZING THINGS in our Band's vehicles! he he he!
