We were, just moments ago, eating chorizo quesadillas.

Mostly, we used leftover ingredients from Saturday's lunch, when we - surprise - had chorizo quesadillas.

There was something Even BettererTM this time around.

We used some fresh purple basil that I picked up today from the CSA.

Taste. Explosion.

And I got to thinking. You go out to eat at a restaurant and you pay them gobs of money, and they serve you frozen stuff. Dried stuff.

It doesn't take much effort to get some herbs growing.

Hell, a restaurant could get several of these going, and it's even easier for them. Or, even better, a commercial version that achieves the same thing on the scale they need.

An order comes in, chop, snip, there's the herbs. Right there. Fresh.

Why pay for stale food?

This is why I love Flow. Locally grown food, fresh. It really makes a difference.

And if you're paying $20 a person - or even if it's just $10 a person, which can include some of the more expensive fast food places these days or even the cheap ones, for those with big appetites - there's no reason you should be paying to have overly processed stuff shipped from across the country.

Leave that for the rare delicacies that only grow in one place. If you can grow it in your neighborhood, your restaurants should be growing it in your neighborhood or buying it from someone who does.

Anything else, might as well go with frozen burgers (which most of the places around here serve) and Gortons fish (which most of the places around here serve).

Too bad you didn't get a visit here. Rachel & I went to a restaurant where a friend of ours is chef. Her LARGE bowl of clam chowder was excellent, my deep sea scallops in a maple(real, local) syrup/champagne glaze was fantastic and so were the homemade (not greasy) potato chips with fresh blue cheese sauce we had as an appetizer.* Total cost $24.00! Unbelievable.

I grew purple basil at Winter St house and the regular kind on Sunset Rd (from Victor's garden) I tried dill with no success.

* R wanted me to tell you about the special dessert the chef sent out to us, but I don't want to make you too envious

You should post a full review of the place in your blog - they'd probably like the extra business it generated, even if it was only a small amount! =)
