I was informed that the gingerbread used to make houses is of a less edible variety than the gingerbread for eating purposes. I suppose it helps the structural integrity or something. The cotton candy used on the roof didn't look all that appetizing when the bag was first opened, and moisture in the air further decreased that appeal.
