Tree-Eating Rodent
Nov. 22nd, 2007 07:58 pmUnlike some prior years, we didn't see a bunch of turkeys walking by just before we ate their not-so-wild relatives. We were joined, however, by a smallish herd of tree-eating rodents, who munched on things I planted while we ate our dessert.
Click through for a bunch of pics - both before and after - of the tree Justin and I will be removing and some experiments with camera settings and La Luna.
As with before, all the family shots are secured to friends & family, so if you can't see them, you need to 1) have a Flickr account; 2) be logged into aforementioned account (I think this is why
patrixa still hasn't seen the last batch!); 3) be considered either friend or family by me on Flickr. If you think you should meet the criteria of #3 but I don't seem to have you listed the right way, let me know!
(This last portion of the message is more for the random family members that may happen by; I think I have everyone else taken care of! =)

Date: 2007-11-23 08:54 pm (UTC)I enjoy looking thru photos while I sit comfortably on couch, bed, or chair, holding one in my hand, scrutinizing it, up close and personal. Looking at photos thru a screen is fine for a quick reference, but not when I wish to inhale the spirit/aura of it.
Flikr is fine for the photographer, I guess, but not for this see'er.

Date: 2007-11-24 01:34 am (UTC)I expect the problem you have with printing is me choosing the "All Rights Reserved" option for photos - this might prevent you from downloading them to print, or from printing from their site. I do this, because if I choose a more forgiving license, my kids may wind up in a newspaper or magazine - and perhaps not in a favorable light. (I changed it when a friend had a childhood picture of theirs snagged and used for an article on child abuse - she wasn't abused, she wasn't from Kosovo (or wherever the article was about) and she received no notice, request, or so on from the newspaper before they used her photograph.)

Date: 2007-11-24 03:12 am (UTC)I do not enjoy the expense of the inks and paper plus the colors are not true unless the paper is very expensive. It cost me $50 for the colored inks and $30 for the black and they do not last long if more than a few items are printed.
Printing from email is not much better because: 1. Getting the printer to give me the size I want -- even if I reread the instructions, seldom works and I'm unhappy. -- 2. The photo, on 9x11 paper, is seldom properly cropped -- 3. Which makes it not a good photo.
Got the picture? I haven't got any picture, at least none to hand... they're all in the computer... kind of hard to share with a neighbor or mail to a friend.

Date: 2007-11-24 04:20 am (UTC)Given the new information:
I believe you can buy prints through Flickr or other services. A local photo store - or even something like Staples or a copy/business services place - probably offers a print-from-file service. You have to have the photo file, possibly on a CD or a USB device.
I have no idea what they charge for the service, but I know a lot of people were using the one at the camera store we were at a few weeks ago. We can talk about it Saturday or Sunday, or when you come down.

Date: 2007-11-24 03:12 pm (UTC)Buying from Flickr is buying over the internet, a process I do not feel safe with and so avoid as much as possible. Call me old fashioned or just old, fine with me, but I do not like to do that. And they do not, as far as I know, have my now Yahoo info which is not the same Yahoo info from several years ago when I first joined.
Looking at pictures on the MAC is fine -- once or twice; it's not easy on the eyes, though and hard to share, by which I mean being with a person, holding the photo, laughing (or crying) with them -- a together thing, not a solo thing.
Enough on the mater. I do not intend to print photos from the MAC for all the reas ins you have.TA DA That's it! =P
