After many eons, I crumbed the old set of rusty strings off the P540 (see icon) and put a brand new set of strings on.
Now I have about 85 brazillion allen wrenches, some of my own, most from my dad. Ask
patrixa, and she'll tell you I'm estimating on the low side.
At one time, 9 out of every 10 allen wrenches I owned fit the ones on the guitar.
Naturally, it took me over an hour to dig through boxes for a particular tool kit where I knew one of that size was stored. I hoped. I had tried almost every single allen wrench in the collection before I went on that search; every one except those that were bigger than the guitar itself. I was pretty sure they wouldn't fit.
After a whole bunch of boxes, I found the tool kit I was looking for and was in business.
You know, there was a time not so long ago where I couldn't have done what I did without the chromatic tuner or something else that explicitly tells me I'm on the note I want to be on. Tonight, I got there by ear. I double checked against the other guitar. And it was so close to being right - as in, fine tuning level.
During the search for the tool kit I found another Jim Dunlop Jazz Tortex heavy gauge pick (no one stocks them around here; I'm down to three; I'll have to order some when they're gone), the capo, and the tremelo bar.
After more than 4 years, I can do all manner of fun whammy bar type stuff. Strings sound good, too. =)
