Book #26: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Book 6) by J.K. Rowling

Yep, liked it. Found myself visualizing most of it as if I was watching it on the big screen rather than reading it off a page. Of course, the big thing is wondering what's next. I'll post some theories in the comments, so spoilers will definitely be present.

Cross-posted to [livejournal.com profile] 50bookchallenge and me own journal (theories will be located here!)

Theory 1

Snape actually has turned to evil.

Dumbledore made the goof that was set up at the beginning - that biggest blunder.

Quite obvious.

Potter has to kill Snape - which is difficult - and then go on to kill Voldemort - which should be a bit tougher.

If it goes this route, I'd be extremely disappointed. It's set up too nice and neat for this.

Theory 2

Snape is, like Harry, following Dumbledores orders.

Dumbledore gets an escape from pain, or, perhaps, has some other trick up his sleeve.

Snape will play an important part in assisting Potter in bringing about the end of Voldemort.

I personally like this theory best, especially if there's no bringing Dumbledore back - I, like most folks, love the guy, but I wouldn't want to cheapen his death with some deus x machina.

This is the one I'm leaning toward.

Definitely.

Only thing I can't figure out is where the 'e' in 'ex' went in the last part of my post... of course, that has nothing to do with the subject at hand...

Theory 3

Theories 1 and 2 provide major direction. These others are just bits and pieces...

A brief mention at the end of theory 2, this one is simple: the Gandalf ploy.

It was rough enough when Tolkien used it (and worse in the movies, actually).

Dumbledore rises like the phoenix, comes back as a newly refined wizard.

Doesn't really fit with what has happened and been set up - the Minister of Magic isn't exactly the White Wizard, so there's nothing set up for Dumbledore to ascend to.

Hopefully, this device isn't used at all.

I really don't think #1 is correct and I'd hate if it were true. There are several little clues toward the end that led me to believe #2 is more likely as far as Snape is concerned. Not sure if/how Dumbledore will come back. Like everyone, I can't wait for Book 7. I linked here from [livejournal.com profile] 50bookchallenge if you were wondering.

I actually went back and checked for spoiler posts from folks on my friends list, and it seems that theory #2 or variations thereof is fairly popular.

There's far too much setup that will go the way of a red herring if she plays out theory #1 - I don't think that's the way it will pan out in the end, but I have a feeling she'll do her best to convince you that theory #1 is the way she's going for a good portion - if not almost all - of the seventh book.
