The snow won.

At least for tonight.

Someone - who shall remain nameless, but who I can see every single time I look in a mirror - forgot to buy more gas. Two hours of gas - for mowing or plowing - goes almost that far on layers of thick icy snow, packed tight, and that's not enough to clear our driveway. Took most of a half a tank just to clear a path down to the street and back, in about 4 passes, because it kept riding up on the ice layer. Finally, I let it do so, made it down, then continued back up, wash, rinse, repeat, and it was pretty clear. After that, I took half a cut in each direction and it did okay. Right now the driveway is about half-way clear, which, in some parts is probably enough to fit the Subaru down to go get gas in the morning.

Then, after it has time to settle down, and after we've packed down two tire tracks worth, I'll finish clearing it.

Oh, I used a cheap dust mask to help keep the air warm (if somewhat recycled) and that worked reasonably well, so I didn't have any of the major breathing difficulties cold air seems to give me these days.

Oh, dear. I would struggle. And complain, too.

March is coming.

::shakes fist at the white stuff:: There were some *insane* totals from this thing. Sometimes you just have to throw in the towel. Or live in a household with three football + basketball playing brothers while you feign exhaustion. How much snow fell around your way? We got mebbe three-four inches here, and the closing episode of freezing rain guarantees travel will be hell in a couple of hours.

I'd say only about 4 inches, but it was packed down tight so it might have counted as more.

When we tried to finish the driveway, it just took off an inch or so of powder and left a shelf of ice.

Oh well.

Took two hours to scrape enough ice off the Subaru to back it up. Still has another half-hour or so of scraping to come clean.

Well, We got a foot or so, not counting drifts. Here's what surprised to me: Laconia plows ALL city sidewalks after snow, not just downtown!

2 neighbor kids came by around noon and shoveled the front stairs, front walk, and 2 cars worth of driveway. Later, as the snow kept falling and falling. I heard a small plow doing next door;s drive, so i motioned to him to do ours. When I asked what it cost, he laughed and said "nothing". Turns out he is next door neighbor who I've seen several times but not all hatted and scarfed.

Dan gothoome shortly after that and he cleared the rest of drive (3 cars long,; 2 wide) and
this morning, Iggy (tenant) recleared drive plus my van.

It's 9 degrees with windchill to -12, but the sun is warm through the windows.
