Finally, a real, live sign of Spring! A snow crocus is actually in bloom, and each of the two older kids discovered one starting to poke out that their ol' dad missed. I'd be more pleased if the 3/30 ratio was a little higher, but, hey, it's a start. We had been looking since the weather turned nicer (and the snow melted enough so we could see where we had planted!) but efforts were redoubled after discovering the neighbor across the street has a handful of hyacinth leaves showing, and his sole tulip is visible. His bleeding hearts are also starting to show.

We searched for signs of our grape hyacinth (about 36), tulips (10), and bluebells (15, I think) and couldn't find any. Since this is the first year for all these bulbs in our yard, I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt and some extra time.

Most of the foxglove are showing some new green leaves, and I couldn't locate any of the bleeding hearts underneath the oak leaves with enough certainty to say they *aren't* growing yet.

I love bleeding hearts. Are they the big plants or the little native ones? Do you also have oxalis?

Here the oxalis is so green it hurts to look at it. Then the little white flowers start poking out. It covers the woodland floor. The lacy bleeding heart compliments it nicely. All together it is utterly absorbing.

I just love it all.

If I have any oxalis, I'm not aware of it... I certainly don't have it in abundance, and any that are around are naturally occurring.

As for the bleeding hearts, yes. We've got a number of both types that my mother brought down for us from her garden, as well as a handful of both that I had purchased last spring. The Dicentra eximia is endangered in PA, so I'm going to make it a future goal to plant as much of it as possible (not, of course, from sources collected in the wild.)
