The Saga of the Heart of the Ice
Oct. 24th, 2006 03:55 pmII. The Journey Begins
| North to snow and ice, | walk against the wind, |
| frost-crunch of their step | in silent North-woods, |
| distances great pass with | mighty stride; night falls: |
| Northern lights across | the sky swirl like maidens |
| fair and warriors | heart-strong sword-dancers; |
| Thor, Thor, the voices cry; | Thor, in hall on high; |
| God of Thunder silent | whispers in Elven-Grey ears, |
| Wake! Awake! Bjorn roars | rage-mad axe-biter rises |
| swinging, cleaving sly | snow-wolf, shredding life; |
| Ilduvær tastes wolf-flesh | biting, leopard strikes; |
| Victory granted, all | lay claim to the kill |
| under swirling light | flashing in the night; |
| Blood-drawn, vicious beasts | fallen, blood-red snow |
| forest-spirits whisper | of the might of heroes. |
| Snow-white hidden traps, | spiders wait, worthy |
| heroes to waylay, | vermin-foul, skulking |
| Loki-spawn, poison | dripping, stone-heart gripping; |
| Thor, Thor, the voices cry; | Thor, in hall on high; |
| Insolent insects leap | Bear-Bjorn Mountain-son |
| too massive for foul | eight-legs many-eyes; |
| Teeth-sink deep-biting | Skog caught, foul bite |
| crippling skill, robbing | blood-biters bringing pain; |
| Two collide above | Stormsanger, Tung Kniv, |
| eyes dancing in dazed circles | the skald strikes one; |
| Snow-cat ends the other | as Hjolvar Owl-Borne |
| circles-down, aid-giver; | Skog-biter strikes again, |
| mighty conjurer down | as owl-claws rake and |
| axe-biter froths, kills | foul venom-wielder; |
| Fire-Tempest burns | breath stilled, heart to |
| stone with spider bite; | Bjorn-rage bursts as |
| beloved brother skald | blood-frozen poison |
| courses where life should, | so falls the last foe. |
