It was confirmed: Granny McCarthy's is not setting up a stand at Musikfest. Apparently, they lost too much money, in addition to spending the ten days overheating last year.

So, instead of paying about the same for a fish & chips and ice tea as I would eating it at the restaurant (when it's only available Friday night, or, for this week, Thursday through Saturday) I wound up paying $16 for a lemonade, small sausage sandwich, and fries. Oy.

Unfortunately, most of the places I might usually go - such as the Plaza Deli or Ripper's Pub - have a limited menu during Musikfest, so they tend to be off the list as well. Driving anywhere is also out, as there is a good chance of not being able to get back into the parking lot. I think I'll be heading to Subway or some other place within walking distance for much of the rest of the week - no point spending more for less. At least with the fish & chips it was of a good quality and large quantity. I could rationalize the $11.50 a day. I'm sure there are good vendors down at the fest, but $16 dollars and a half hour later I'm hungry, and I'm not sure I'm willing to experiment with places further away.

an idea

we meet up and i show you my favorite pizza place?

then again every time there was some kind of mention of a fest gathering it's not happened yet...

heh, take broad street up past where it becomes west broat, past center, and go about 2 more blocks, it's on the left.
there's also very good ice cream up that way

I don't think I've tried that place... have to check it out!

Friday I'll be doing the poetry thing at the Moravian Book Shop 7-9ish, and then heading down to see Brother @ Volksplatz. Stop by if you can! =)

How's everything going with the damage from the flooding, anyways? I love festivals (even if they can be pricey on the food side)...It sounds like you had fun.

Our driveway's still a mess of canyons. A few spots along my commute show signs of rebuilt bridges or rock swales, but most of the really bad flooding wasn't around areas I frequent - close to them, sometimes just down the road, but not stuff I see day to day.

Our county was approved for federal funds, but I haven't looked into seeing if that means they'll pay for a load of driveway stone - possible, but there are those in a lot more need than I.

:o) That's a very good way to look at things. Sometimes it is definitely better to leave the money for those who really need help instead of taking what you could legally. Glad you are doing all right with all of that mess. Best wishes for your mom and what she's going through, too.
