Goran Sollscher - Two Pieces by Weiss
Jul. 29th, 2009 08:05 amDespite the title of the video, this is not a twelve string guitar.
A 12-string is 6 strings tuned as any other guitar, 3 strings tuned in unison with the 3 high strings, and 3 strings tuned an octave up from the 3 low strings.
This is an eleven string guitar, and it is tuned like a lute.
You can hear more of Goran playing this guitar on his 2004 album Eleven-String Baroque
.
The music played here was composed by Sylvius Leopold Weiss (1687-1750). The first tune is, depending on who you believe, either the Fantasia in C Minor or the Fantasie in D Minor. The second piece is the Ciacona for Lute, from one of Weiss' lute suites.
