Jul. 4th, 2006 11:24 amI wasn't sure exactly which way this would go, given the wording of some of the questions, but the results - and the order it shows them - seem to be in line with what I'd expect.
Who'd have thunk it?

Recipe: Applewood Smoked Pork
Jul. 4th, 2006 11:43 am- Pork roast, chopped into itty-bitty bits that are probably too small and will fall through the grill (oops)
- Bullseye Honey Smoke barbecue sauce (because I forgot we still have a bottle of Jim Beam BBQ which is thinner and would work better in this application)
- 2 cups apple wood chips
Soak the 1" cubed pork in the sauce for at least two hours. More is better. The pork cuts easily while frozen, so I cut it up, dumped it in the marinade pan, covered it, and let it defrost and soak up the sauce. As mentioned above, this is one of the few - if only - times I prefer a thinner barbecue sauce. For direct application to cooked foods or for basting during cooking, thicker works better, but marinade is best done with a more watery sauce.
Soak the apple wood in water, apple juice, or apple cider for at least a half hour. Wrap in a double layer of heavy duty foil and set directly on the lava rocks before pre-heating the grill on low heat.
Once the wood starts smoking, put the pork on the grill and cook, turning once, until the internal temperature of the meat hits 160F.
By way of bunches o' folks
Jul. 4th, 2006 06:34 pmI took that "How American Are You?" quiz, and, in addition to several choices where nothing was worth answering (the sports one? WTF? women's basketball and soccer? I can't see watching one leading to the other... and what happened to hockey?) I could see which answers were intended to lead towards being considered American...
Sadly, it becomes apparent that you have to be against everything that our Founders held dear - it's quite obvious that if you're not a Republican, NRA member, pro-military, light beer drinking, arrogant, insular yet meddling, scum of the earth, you're not American to this quiz.
Funny.
If there were any Americans left, GW would have been ridden out of office on a rail.
As one friend pointed out a while ago, the Constitution is a liberal document - it grants freedoms that are at the core of what America should be about - and it is wise to be conservative of it - to preserve the freedoms within, and not to restrict it or change it or destroy it. As another on my friend's list was pointing out earlier today, the Founders of this country would be appalled to see how things are progressing.
Bah.
Want to be un-American? Support the current regime and continue dismantling everything the country stood for. Waving all the flags you want doesn't help a bit if you burn, rip, and destroy what they symbolized.
