Jan. 20th, 2005 08:24 amTwo hour commute home yesterday - the first hour of which was spent attempting to escape Bethlehem, where they misremembered to use all my $52 (and that of everyone else who works in Bethlehem, including minimum-wage-type folks) to clear the roads of snow. As usual, I had less trouble on windy, twisty, steep hilly roads through townships that are only marginally larger than the township municipal offices themselves than I did in a city where the mayor probably makes more than the townships annual budget. But I'm not bitter... =)
Over the course of yesterday and Not Doing Anything Specific, the water in the master bath suddenly repaired itself, which lends credence to the frozen-pipe theory - probably more of a frozen-valve, really. Thanks to the brilliant design, I have to take out a tub or shower or wall to access them, something I will inevitably have to do - hopefully not for many years.
My father is going to come down and assist with the radon repairs when I can get the materials. The slab already has a pipe mounted in it, and another coming from under the family room, so those should be able to be vented outside fairly easily. Also need to install a fan to move air out of the cellar, which will have the added benefit of assisting with moisture down there. There are two small windows, but unfortunately the mice destroyed the screens when they moved in before us (they are since deceased, and my cats had to resort to importing rodents from neighbors yards, or chasing after deer for entertainment), and not being able to open them has kept both moisture and, apparently, radon, in.
