parasite

so much power we give
when we let them
crawl beneath our skin
like vampires
in stories of old
we must invite them in
they seek shelter there
in the wound
too weak to wear their own form
spread their malaise
with each bite
gnawing at our souls
spineless
by design
creeping malignancy
powerless
until you're gone
they make you weaker and weaker
drained and lifeless
they leave your corpse
without a single kind word
