A few days ago, I was standing out on the porch, and I suffered grievous abuse, berated up and down with language that would make a sailor blush.

No, it wasn't Deb, why do you ask?

You see, I stepped out on to the porch, and saw movement under the swinging chair. As I started to investigate, a chipmunk ran out from that area and dived into one of the cat beds. I flipped it over, but before I could get the other one on top to capture the little booger, it darted up and out, ran along the porch edge, hidden by the ferns, and proceeded to rip me a new one, as only a foul-mouthed little rodent can.

I took a step towards it, and it ran down along the foundation and into one of the cellar window wells, where it continued its verbal abuse.

And where were the cats when all this happened? Down at the end of the driveway, lounging in the azaleas. Oy.

LOL

One of my other friends had similar run in's with the neighbourhood squirrel. But eventually they reached an understanding. She now has given it peanuts and bedding for it's babies. But it used to totally crack me up the stories I'd hear of this angry squirrel.

I actually don't mind the chipmunks. I'd rather have the cats going after field mice and leaving the chipmunks alone.

Well chipmunks also happen to be cute. But while I've not seen a cat in a fight with one I'm guessing it could get very nasty. The cats I've seen here try to catch them but never quite do it. They are too fast and bouncy for them.

The cats play with them. If the chipmunk is lucky, it gets away. Usually, it doesn't.

Deb tried to intervene once, and it ran up her leg, bleeding all over... that one did finally make it into a tree and up (60'+) out of the way.

I've seen others get so confused they run *to* the cat instead of away...

My goal is to get the cats to go after deer the same way - and if they chase off large dogs and black bears, the size shouldn't be an issue! =)
