My third child (and second son) was born on September 11, 2004. Brandon Phillip was conceived six years and half a day after his sister was born, who was conceived six years plus or minus a week or so after her older brother was born, who was conceived a much larger number of years and a handful of days in either direction from when both of his parents were born. Much is being made of about what kind of stork summoning rituals will be occurring in September 2010.

My health took a nosedive prior to the start of the year, and went into a tailspin and an emergency room visit early on. Asthma got me into the doctors, and high blood pressure and an enlarged heart got me a four-hour stay in Cardiac 1. The enlarged heart shrank, or went away, and was replaced later in the year with high bad cholesterol and low good cholesterol. Much work was missed over the course of the year, as nearly everything I ingested to resolve the conditions caused drowsiness that impacted the early morning commute..

In our first full year in our new house, we managed to tame the stream (named the Rachel River) that runs along the street edge of our property, carve another 300x1x1 foot stream bed and fill it with rocks to direct runoff from the house itself, and come to the realization that the woods we thought were composed solely of oak and a handful of pine actually have some diversity – a number of sweet birch, one paper birch, one hemlock, four white pine, about 20 pitch pine, at least two dogwood, two cherry, some tupelo, tons of witch hazel, some American chestnut, plenty of sassafras, and a sizable amount of red maple..

On the day that my son was born, my brother got in a motorcycle accident, and flew 100 feet or so through the woods, resulting in broken bones in one arm and the other leg. He is out of the wheelchair now, but the arm is still giving him trouble, as is the health insurance company..

At work, I was reassigned to the Student Custom team. This is both good and bad, as I am a better fit mission-wise with the not-for-profit Level 3 Release team than the unreachable-quota-level of the Custom team, but I have an excellent team leader who deals with a lot that used to get shuffled over to me (not that L3R has a bad team leader – she is new to it, reassigned after failure of the prior leader, some of which, I expect, reflected on me as the lead analyst of the team).

Not sure where the next year will be headed, especially with some major overhanging issues (browse back through the journal for a number of them – I’ve been posting here for such a short time, it feels silly to repeat them, even if this is allegedly a YiR…), but hopefully it will have more positive changes and less of the less so…
