Cough Syncope
Mar. 16th, 2006 10:18 amA name for the condition. In lower strengths it often exhibits itself as "tunnel vision" or "seeing stars" (no tweeting birds were mentioned...) and this is, essentially, what I've experienced thus far, although the episode in the previous post came close to being an actual syncopic event.
Not surprisingly, several things are key indicators in the likelihood of having cough syncope: male, middle-aged (or close to it), obese, and some triggering problem with lungs/breathing. Smokers with COPD are most common, but more is being noted about non-smokers with asthma.
The good news and the bad news? Treat the triggering problem, which in this case is either the cold (wait for it to pass) or the asthma (treating...) or the two combined, which means there is no instant solution.
