Join me tonight - I'll be toasting cheers to Guinness for their really brilliant commercial!

It's a fun one and one they've had for a few months this side of the pond.

Yeah, apparently it's a different version here - but the Euro version I saw was very low quality, with skips and blurs and other fun obstructions. Looks like you have something completely different with the same idea behind it.

The version that I watched there looked just like the one I've seen on TV here. There is a shorter one.

Ah, is that one finally airing in the US? What's the reaction? :)

(Of course, I'm the one who thinks that all Guinness outside of the Republic of Ireland tastes awful. I disliked Guinness until I had it in a pub in Co Meath. :)

I expect a certain outspoken segment of the population will, erm, speak out about it, but the only news I've heard so far was [livejournal.com profile] lionsphil mentioning it in [livejournal.com profile] ufieland...

I've never tasted Guinness but once, here in Cambridge, MA. I agree totally with silme with one question -- does it really taste good, even in Co Meath?

some of the best guinness is apparently right beside the guinness factory.

Trust me, they export the rubbish -- even over here to the UK, where I am. It's better here than in the US, though. But it's best the closer you get to the factory. :)

Yes, it does taste good in Co Meath. And in Dublin. Seriously. We were in a pub in Co Meath (not too long after the smoking ban came into effect -- we were basking in the smoke-free air) and my husband ordered a pint of Guinness. I took a sip of his (I'd had it in Northern Ireland and knew it was as bad as in England) just to see if the theory was true about Guinness being better in pubs in Ireland. It is. I immediately went up to the bar and ordered a pint for myself. I do drink it in the UK or US or anywhere else, though -- only in Ireland. :)

Yeah, really says something about their product. "Drink Guinness and you'll devolve into primitive pond life"

Now, now... =)

If you're not a beer fan, you may appreciate that a former co-worker of mine referred to it as "bacteria poop" and refused to drink the stuff. Personally, I think I'd prefer pond scum to most beer, but if I have a choice, it's often Guinness. A proper black and tan, with Guinness and Bass from draft is preferable.

That commercial is awesome. *grin*

I'm not much of a Guinness fan myself. The bitterness, oh man. The only way I can stomach it is in this thing my dad calls a "Guinness Shake", an unholy combination of Guinness, evaporated milk, condensed milk, ice, and whatever else you may fancy. I still make an "ugh" face when gulping but it's helped by the frothy goodness.

awesome commercial!

Im not a fan of guinness per se (I've tried it in the US and in London)- It's just not to my liking. But i do pride myself on not drinking any of the piss-water than passes for beer here in the US by major beer makers. I prefer independent local brews or belgian ale. Thank the light for Monk's Cafe and Nodding Head pub!

You should try it "watered down" with Bass - a nicely made black and tan will stay in clear levels in the glass, and not be one mixed brew, which Yeungling passes off as "black and tan" in these parts.

I only order it after asking if they have both Guiness and Bass on tap, and then I specify *that* kind of black and tan, just in case... and I'm highly impressed when they get offended that I thought they might make such a heinous mistake.

Speaking of local brews, I'll have to see if the Bethlehem BrewWorks can pull off a black and tan with their Steelworkers Stout and whatever-they-call-their-ale-equivalent (can you tell what I drink when I'm there? It's so thick, you think you can see the oatmeal in the head... =)

For the record, my ultimate favorite is Sam Adams Triple Boch, which is hardly a beer, although PA thinks so, and so I've only seen it for sale by the case ($150, last I checked.) So, yeah, haven't had it since I lived in MA.

hmm i will have to try it that way...and that stout sounds delicious! Im by no means a beer expert. It was only in the past few years that Ive branched out. A friend of mine, who decided to brew her own, turned me on to the beer experience outside of Yuengling lol. I was always too scared to try other beers before. Growing up, it was always Bud, Coors or Meister Brau at my house. *gag* even then I knew that was BAD beer. But I didnt know there was good beer really until I got into my mid 20s.

Ive never had that SA - Ive had some really good SA and some bad. i think the bad was due more the bar (maybe it was stale?) than the beer itself. I brought SA to a family gathering once last year and everyone was like "ooo getting fancy on us...michelob not good enough for you huh?" heh

Yeah, some people have that view.

Then again, some think Bud and Coors and the like are high brow brews, and all la-ti-da. Then again, others think Heinekin is perfection, and I can't stand the stuff - I'd actually prefer Bud or Coors (the latter can alternately be found labelled as "bottled water", and sometimes has a nicer flavor in that alternate packaging. I think the stuff that gets the 'Coors' label is Evian gone bad, or something.)

Haven't seen the commercial, but I'll raise either my glass of cheap champagne (which I happen to prefer to the 90.00 bottles) or my bottle of bud. Guiness makes me gag, and Heineken just down right tasts nasty too.

I enjoy a beer from time to time. I prefer the products from local microbreweries in the area. It just makes sense.
