... snow.

Yep. It is.

Visibility from |--> to about <--| give or take a little.

Deb has to take Brandon for his 15 month checkup. Rachel may be getting out earlier - all the schools around us have announced early dismissal, so it's likely she gets out early, or, at the least, has afternoon activities cancelled.

I'm working from home due to being breathing-impaired. Watching the progress meter on Washington State custom transcripts, hopefully the changes I've made fix the problem.

Justin's playing Ape Escape II, going for his second completion of it. Deb rented the game as a show of appreciation for his helping out a lot lately.

In the time I've been writing this, visibility decreased by about 100' or so.

Breathing impaired or not, it still sounds like a nice day.

Got your secret santa gift and we listened to it in the car. It is lovely. I plan to play it on the stero proper soon. Thank you.

Your welcome!

Wasn't sure what I was going to get you, and for some reason the tunes on that disc kept coming up in my head. After a week or so of this, I finally realized that "Ummm, hey, your internal jukebox is trying to tell you something." Couldn't have been more clear if I'd been hit upside the head with a guitar, then a violin, and then a cello.

Jim's a great guy and a great musician - and the cd is not bad, considering my mom's friend wrote them off with: "I've heard them play, and all I can say is... they're loud!" (Jim is the guitarist for the progressive metal band Fates Warning. My mom's friend from high school is best friends with the mom of one of the guys in the band - we never did find out which one, though.)

Didn't get a chance to re-listen today. Nightsky headed down to Raymond for a few days, so I should have a chance to listen in peace.

I wanted to ask you how you came across Jim (?). I really liked the guitar (?). (don't get riled, I'm horribly music illiterate, but I love it just the same) Anyway, I'll do my usual and listen and read the CD jacket to figure stuff out.

I first heard Jim with Fates Warning - a friend had made a tape of Queensryche, and, as an afterthought, put Fates Warning on the flipside.

Although Queensryche is one of my favorite bands, if I had to pick one, it would be Fates Warning.

The first album - Night on Brocken - is compared, often with disdain, to Iron Maiden. The musical structures are a bit more complex than what Maiden uses, and have evolved much further over time.

"First Impressions" is Jim's first solo album. He plays acoustic guitar on it, and is joined by a violin and a cello player. His second solo album "Away with Words" (which has the not-quite title track "A Way with Words") features Jim on acoustic guitar, along with Michael Manring (Windham Hill recording artist) on bass, Mark Zonder (Fates Warning) on drums, and a jazz violinist (misremember his name, though).

If you go to the Fates Warning website, I think they have some tracks you can listen to, so you can hear what they sound like in their, erm, day job! =)
