The Karaoke Report
Feb. 25th, 2012 11:55 amSo last night I was at a loss for what to sing at karaoke, and I put out a call for requests on Facebook.
Lately, what I've been doing is singing things once, than done. No repeat performances. I had noticed I tend to way-undersing something the first time and it takes me a while to sound decent at it, and so, by way of testing me (and torturing the listeners, who are hopefully fairly drunk anyway), I decided to do all new songs all the time. The theory is that, knowing I only have one shot at it, I'll hopefully convince myself to do it right the first time. And it kind of works, most times.
So the new tunes that I put in were Judas Priest's "You've Got Another Thing Coming", Golden Earring's "Radar Love", and Aerosmith's "Seasons of Wither".
Tracey dropped "Another Thing" down one, and that kind of threw me. I thought it was lower, but I think I struggled more on trying to figure out what was going on, and it didn't come out nearly as good as it should have.
"Radar Love" came out great. If I do repeats, that's one I'd definitely do again.
Unfortunately, Tracey didn't have "Seasons", so she said she put me in for "Dude (Looks Like A Lady)", which I've done before.
Stacy put two requests in that I did before I got to "Dude": "C is for Cookie" and Deep Purple's "Hush". I managed to work "callipygian" into the last chorus, because we all know that is really what C is for. "Hush" went over very well... there was a great crowd last night, and people really got into it. Had someone come over and shake my hand afterwards.
The round after that, I sang "Dude" and that also went over very well... although it was only my second time singing it, I feel it was much stronger than the first, and the first time went very, very well.
I mentioned that there was a great crowd ~ we had a bunch of Cramers come out, Mert and his wife were there as well, and Andy was there early enough to get a couple tunes in (always look forward to him singing Kiss' "God of Thunder"). We thought it was going to be an early night, but we wound up closing the place out and having a ton of fun.
