Today's tune almost wasn't ~ WMG doesn't want you to watch or hear their artists' music, because gods forbid you go out and spend money to buy the piece or other works by the artist... well, what would happen then? They might have to pay the artist a few pennies, and we don't want that!

Ahem.

Today's song is an Irish classic, sung by Lisa Gerrard. It boggles me that, when Lisa sings it without Brendan being on stage (i.e. as a solo act, and not as Dead Can Dance), people call it a DCD cover. I'm sorry, it's Lisa singing a song Lisa sang with DCD, that's not quite a cover tune. Besides, it's not really a cover unless Robert Dwyer Joyce (1836-1883) was a member of DCD; considering the band formed 98 years after he died, the chance of that being the case is slim to none.

The Wind That Shakes The Barley was first released by DCD on Into the Labyrinth and it can also be heard on their live album Toward the Within [Re-Mastered].

This video, instead of being a segment of the DVD Dead Can Dance - Toward The Within, because WMG would rather shoot themselves in the foot than allow you to spend any money on their products, is composed out of footage from the 2006 movie The Wind That Shakes the Barley.

Thank you, that was lovely. Lisa is wonderful in concert...I've seen her both solo and with Dead Can Dance.

Glad you enjoyed it, and I wish I've seen either/or (okay, and would be best!), but the closest I've come is watching the videos! =)
