Is Seven Years so Steep a Price?

silent foe
casting judgment
wordless, i'm left alone
swayed and waylaid
taunted and tormented
to analyse the battle
lost well before it's begun
fallen prey
once again
caught in passing narcissism
shallow begets sorrow
sorrow begets sallow
and features droop as postures stoop
and colours pale as best intentions fail
and if pride stands before the fall
it cowers in fear when its image is shattered
shards of silvered glass
all that remains
smug and confident again
for i am me as i see fit to be
no mere reflection of long lost perfection
no longer a slave to the mirror
but of a mind and image clearer
presenting for all the world to see
not a static, one-dimensioned thing
but the multitude of the idea that is me
