Steve Vai - Building the Church
Sep. 27th, 2008 12:02 pmHere we're going with another live performance of a tune off of Real Illusions: Reflections
. This is one of the (few?) Vai albums I don't have, so it's not here on account of it being a favorite tune of mine or anything like that, I just stumbled across way back when I was lining up other videos for the playlist.
Billy Sheehan lays down an excellent bass line on this one (why is that different than any other bass line he plays? He tends to be made of excellence...) and it's really clear in this live mix. The whammy bar bit that ends the tune is very cool - while it's easy to get odd noises out of the device, playing one with precision and musicality is a wee bit tougher. Take a look and listen:
This tune is also available in a studio recording as an MP3
. I've also heard - from one out of two expert reviewers - that the tune is transcribed incorrectly in the book Steve Vai Real Illusions: Reflections (Guitar Recorded Versions)
.
