Okay. I told [livejournal.com profile] nin_man I wasn't going to be playing this video, and then I said to meself, "Meself, yes, they did do a great job on that song" (actually I think I wrote that part out in a reply to lj user="nin_man">, in one form or another) and then I said to meself - and this time, yeah, really - "Meself, I didn't see that video while perusing the other Apocalyptica videos to gather them together for later posting. I wonder what it's like."

Turns out not only do they do a great job with the song - it is, out of all of the tunes on Inquisition Symphony(Amazon.com) perhaps the least Shostakovichish and the most, say, Mozartish. This one wouldn't sound out of place on a classical station - no one would blink an ear, so to speak.

If you didn't listen to the other Apocalptica-covering-Metallica tunes, at least give this one a shot.

The video itself is a beautiful work of art.

I *heart* Apocalyptica. They are seriously one of my favorites.

Well, I don't think I succeeded with my diabolical plan to convert my entire friends list over to Apocalyptica fans - at least not judging by the comments! Looks like most of the Apocalyptica video comments have come from people who are already fans!

lol... I did the same thing a while back. For the most part, I received no comments. The one person who did comment was at least a Metallica fan.

It is probably my favorite video of theirs. However, the song is from Inquisition Symphony, not Four Cellos. ^_^

I redeemed Apocalyptica in A's eyes with this video, actually. The live one you posted horrified him.

"You don't play cello like that!"

"Honey, they're classically trained musicians. They have degrees in this stuff."

"You still don't play cello like that!"

What do you know... it is from Inquisition Symphony. WIll fix that.

I must have been thinking of The Unforgiven or something. Figures this was the only one I didn't double check against the track listing! =)

I had a similar reaction to a live performance I saw. It was the head banging that turned me off to them. But, I just couldn't get past the musical genius and became a blubbering fan, head banging with cellos and all.

Hee! You and me both! They're coming to Seattle in October and I'm going to see them. If it turns out to be an all ages show, I may take the aforementioned younger son, a cello player, with me. He needs to get shaken up once in a while.

Speaking of shaking up kids, I spent a good few hours attempting to get my eldest son to play a heartbeat - he wasn't having any of it, as he wanted to flatten it into an even rhythmic pattern. To try to get it across to him, I had him listen to the bass line for Great White's Rock Me. Drove him nuts.
