Jun. 18th, 2005 07:55 pmThe foxglove bloomed - purple, no less (they were "mixed", with no color choice.) One is still pending. Got a few pictures, should get them posted in a week or so.
Still no sign of life from any of the beech or sweetgums. All but one of the holly either has leaves or shows signs of new leaf growth - I'm not worried about the fourth one; it was in the latest planting and was the last to lose leaves. One of the southern magnolias is doing great, shows two new leaves; the other looks like rotting bananas. Like the holly, it is evergreen, and I'm hoping it's just planting stress and the leaves will drop and new ones appear.
Still no sign of indian ghost pipes - perennials, members of the rhododendron family, pure white with no chlorophyll, cup-like flowers that bloom in June, look like extremely odd mushrooms, live off of fungi that live off of trees, fall apart and practically melt at your touch - neat plants!

Date: 2005-06-18 05:55 pm (UTC)One time i got 2 bare-root roses and planted them. One did great- the other showed no signs of life for a coupleof months, to the point that i called the company and they sent me a replacement. The original one then took off...
