We had a storm - a cold front, I guess - blast through here the other day. It took down a bunch of trees in the area (none on my property) and hail was reported (again, I didn't see any, but it was close...).

I was able to track down some numbers in this report. We received 4.5 inches in one hour. =)

Yes, the Rachel River runneth over. Defying its normal behavior, it slowed to a trickle a couple hours after the storm. It washed out the barrier our neighbor had to keep the flow away from his house. Remnants of the barrier were found well downstream from my place, washed across the street - the whole road was flooded for a bit - and probably traveled about a thousand feet, give or take a few hundred.

That is crazy weather for the middle of July, but wow is that pic beautiful!

Yep!

1) Rain that goes to ground (literally!) helps stuff grow, which means trimming, cutting, pruning, and other maintenance

2) Rain that runs off in excess amounts means rain gardens or other plantings could be planted to slow down the runoff

I wasn't sure this (or the other two I took) would come out. I had to stand way back inside the house because the entire porch was soaked - some from the rain coming in at an angle, but mostly from splash back. There was a puddle on the front "walk" (i.e. bare clay and a few slate stepping stones) that was about 6" deep, and usually that area puddles much smaller if at all.

Also, not appearing in the film, lightning strikes were hitting the property all around the house and in the neighboring yards. That might have been the most impressive part.
