He's got some points about unity - people think in black and white too often, and that makes for 'us vs. them' arguments. I'm not sure that means immigration needs to be stopped, or will result in the country self-destructing.
I did like the comment he made about bilingual being a gift in a person but a detriment as a society. Reminds me of a George Lopez (I think) joke: he's in an elevator or something and a bunch of people are speaking Japanese, and it's getting on his nerves hearing a language he can't understand. "Hey, you're in America," he says, "speak Spanish!"
I get concerned when I hear stuff that sounds like, "outsiders are destroying our country". Or, "if we allow others in, we will all die..."
Howard Dean made me smile, when he told Republicans they were governing and making decisions as if their constituents were all white anglo saxon protestants.
I don't know much about Dean, but he got my attention. I do enjoy a good pot stirring.
I'm thinking that pot-stirring is really what Lamm was trying to do; but yeah, the whole destroying/dying thing seemed a bit extreme.
And the contrast with the other article (I had brought both up in separate browsers without knowing the content, and read them one after the other) really stirred up my own thoughts on the matter.
