talking to myself

madness
the dregs of society
shambling aimless
speaking words
no one hears
a conversation unto themselves
dialog for one

a sole voice
animated
asking questions
demanding solutions
moving along
i draw back
in silence
watching
him pass
wondering
if once
he was sane

human cyborg
a strange growth
upon one side of his head
pain it must bring
for his hand
clutches over his ear
and he speaks in tongues
haranguing an unseen accomplice
speaking publicly
of that which is private
as if the world can't hear
his madness
that pours forth
from his mouth

and in shame
i hang my head
for i should
not mock
such poor
unfortunates
whose minds
have been warped
beyond recognition
who forget that
they are only speaking
to voices in their heads
