Recently Heard: The Definitive Collection

In some ways, the prediction Elwood Blues (Dan Aykroyd) makes as this disc opens up has not quite come true. He names years and claims the blues will only be something you can find in libraries. Thankfully, the blues is still around, although not often found in the format presented here.
This disc is a bunch of tunes collected in a few handfuls off of prior Blues Brothers releases, including a chunk of the soundtrack from the first movie, and a larger chunk of live performances.
If you liked the music in the movie, you can expect to enjoy it here - although the lineup of the band changes here and there, it is mostly what you've come to expect. Aretha and Ray take their turn on their tunes, and you've got Blue Lou, Mr. Fabulous, Matt Murphy, and Donald Dunn as well as the rest of the band doing their thing. Of course, you've also go Steve Cropper, and he really shines on the Sam & Dave tune Soul Man. Not too surprising, considering he wrote the tune...
This is probably not the best album for me - someday, I'll pick up all the individual releases, but until then this will more than satisfy.
