The Way Is Legion

When we first stand before the
Gates of Morn
We see the multitude of paths before us
The way we walk selected
perhaps by its direct nature
or the circuitous route
Through omission of the ways
that seem less desirable
or because there is only one true path
And each day as we pass through the Gate
the paths before us array themselves
according to our wishes
Where once led away a legion of paths
we have convinced ourselves too many
would lead us astray
and the numbers dwindle

It is the sad man that sees only the one path before him

For, in truth, the paths never change
infinite, they await our step
But we are wise and have convinced ourselves
that is not how it is
and so we walk
that lonely way
an endless tunnel
from one day to the next
trapped in
corridors of our mind
