Book Twelve

Not quite as good as the first, this one does progress the story and has a lot of interest - it just takes about half the book to get there. The first part covers a journey (big surprise, given the title), and seems somewhat forced and poorly paced. Once you get there, however, it was much more enjoyable. Part of the drudgery of the traveling itself was the restating of either plot, setting, or biology from the first book. I suppose that's a necessary evil in a series, but for one of such a reading level I would prefer to see it take up a smaller part - use a few words to remind the faithful reader, and perhaps tease (but not require) a newcomer to read the earlier works as well. The story does show the promise of more excitement and questions answered, making the 3rd installment a must.
Not to go around invoking other works and saying "this is just like that," but at times, as the young owls moved through various aspects of their teachings, I was reminded of a certain school of wizadry...
