Fever around 102 and everything all stuffed up.

A nice, rattling cough, implying that my lungs are filled with fluid.

To quote a cute doctor, as she called out to me across the waiting room in what seemed to be moderately dirty tones: "We have to thin your secretions."

I go *thunk* now.

I've practically had tea by IV - from about Friday night. Hopefully this stuff is on its way out!

hot ginger tea for the crud.

raw onions and brown sugar to make a syrup to clear the lungs.

(slice onions, lay them on a plate, cover with brown sugar and leave overnight. next day discard withered onion slices and bottle the sugar/onion juice syrup and take two spoonfuls whenever required)

Won't interact with any prescribed drugs.

Never heard of the onion-sugar mix, but sounds reasonable --onions have vitamins C & B as well as minerals; the soothing of the syrup is a plus. Ginger tea or in ginger chicken broth are not just good for colds, but also stomach upsets. Flat ginger ale also works.

I find homemade aids as helpful or more so than OTC stuff -- most come to us after many years of trial and from many ethnic groups.

the onion/sugar syrup thing is something my Gran taught me years ago - it rarely fails.

She also gave me a recipe for something that gets called "herbal napalm" by my friends, for a cold with sore throat.

1/2 of fresh root ginger, grated finely
2 juniper berries
1 teaspoon of dried camomile flowers

add a mug of boiling water, and steep for at least 5 minutes. Strain, add honey to taste and drink. The first sip will feel like it's scorching your throat raw, but after that the throat will feel much better.

I'm kind of squeamish about the onions and sugar - but hey, since this stuff always tends to linger longer than I'd like I'm willing to give it a try.

Deb will be doing a shopping trip later today (well, for the onions, which we're out of; and the ginger tea.)

Thanks!

I did feel a bit better last night, but I'm down and out this morning - I'm hoping its on its way out.

Rachel and Mr. B also seem to have it, simultaneouslike. With me, though, even a mild cold tends to root itself in my lungs and cause larger problems.

Mr. B has the same cough; Rachel's is lingering, but not so bad.

Lots of folks at the office have it - most of my team has had 1-5 sick days in the last two weeks.

Wish I could say move north as it's too cold for germs, but that's just wishful thinking.

I've had a head-cold nearly 3 weeks; today it seems gone. Mostly I slept and talked like Lauren Bacall. Others have had that stomach thing -- what used to be called La Grippe but now seems to be "norovirus."
