conundrum
By Everett A Warren
July 31, 1998
whispering rhymes whisking away a moments sanity
tasking the soul
where to go from here?
fields of mystery lie fallow
untenanted they writhe with a passing dream
seeking the seed of an inspiration
only to find before them persecution
and where are the answers to my prayers?
and where may i find fortune once again?
having had and lost so much
leaves nothing behind but the longing
seeking tomorrow in an empty cup
following each burst of hope
only to find the stars i've used as guides
fall gently to the sea
behold the thresholds of a seeming dream
upon normalcy i wander
questions arise
wondering and rationalising
forming reality out of preconceived notions
and even so my sorrows seem so light and fleeting
and though it appears that dreams fear the day
i must know in my heart that it is not the dream that is afraid
through the embers of the dawn
echoes of antiquity resound
upon the blameless walls of dream
wander there and then and at that moment in time
seek them there
it is not they who cringe
it is you
