an endless ritual
where once they danced to make the waters flow
now they stomp and moan
to make them go
so wise to stop the rains
stop the flow of life
cut our throats
and rob us blind
strip the earth bare
so the waters flow
pave the world
and wonder why she floods
we cry at signs of precipitation
nothing less than
condensation
condescension
wiser souls cry out
we can control the weather
lessons learned so many years ago
still fail to teach humility
predictions fail
levees fail
and still the rains fall
but we will try again
whatever doesn't kill us
will get its chance again
as we confuse blind luck
with a learning curve
we cry at signs of precipitation
nothing less than
condensation
condescension
the air is heavy with the promise of rain
and i wait for her touch...
for the drops to dance
sliding down leaf and limb
alive with flow
the tides sing upon the shore
dry like the sand crumbling
until the waters rise once more
