Birthday Follow-up
Jun. 4th, 2006 10:40 amDinner at the Outback yesterday was excellent - was contemplating how the thing that really makes the Alice Springs chicken is the dipping sauce - sure the other bits (chicken, bacon, mushrooms, and cheese) are good on their own, but the flavor of the dish really comes out when it gets dipped. Also overheard the manager talking with someone else about how they have a very small freezer - unlike most places - and don't keep all their foods frozen. Sure they're a chain, and that always makes for cutting some corners - but they can still hit that level of satisfaction that works for me.
After the meal, we stopped by Barnes & Noble, and I gathered up some more books from people on my flist -
kradical's Dragon Precinct and
greygirlbeast's To Charles Fort, with Love. I picked up Garth Nix's Mr. Monday for Justin - we had both read that from the library, so when we started buying the books, we jumped in on Grim Tuesday, and as Sir Thursday wasn't out yet in soft cover (or they didn't have it, not sure which...) he decided to go for completion. Rachel looked for the fourth book in Paul Stewart's Edge Chronicles, but they were out of #4 and #6, so she stocked up on a couple of Geronimo Stilton books. I went to see if I could find Ginny Callan's Beyond the Moon, but they didn't have it... I did, however, catch sight of a California Pizza Kitchen cookbook, and I picked it up for Deb. She had worked at CPK for a while before we moved down here, and it not only had utility (we like the food) it had some nostalgia too...
It was raining off and on yesterday - perfect weather to sit out on the porch and see if anyone was going to dictate a poem or three. Well, between the trees, the wind, the crows, the rain, and other flittering influences about seven poems appeared, and I wrote them down one after the other - depending on whether or not I write any more today, I'll try to spread them out across Monday through Friday as evenly as possible.
Who knows, maybe I'll get a short story or two out today (wishful thinking, but then again the last few have come straight out of dreams, and I've had some odd and somewhat suitable story-filled dreams lately...)

Date: 2006-06-05 01:46 pm (UTC)Everything goes better with bacon and cheese... well, *almost* everything...
And the dipping sauce is a simple honey mustard, heavy on the honey.
Thus proving that some time simple is best... =)
