an argument
is an excellent thing
for in the hands of masters
it is like to a chess game
between imbeciles
who constantly replace the pieces

a bit of broken glass for this knight
a cigarette butt for a pawn
and a primo great biggo espresso cup
replete with its toxic sludge remnants
the queen

straw men are invoked
less through an actual presence
than in accusation
entire courses of rhetoric are slain
by the razor-sharp lack of acumen
dull edges bristling with illusionary points

whether or no
they were wise men
learned scholars
or salts of the earth
for neither one nor the other
will prove what they wish

to an independent observer -
that rare, silent creature -
they have shown
quite clearly
one thing above all:
their idiocy knows no bounds
