Ten Things I Like Beginning with the Letter...

If you want to play along, reply here and I'll give you a letter.

badriyaz gave me the letter K, so let's see what I can do with that...

1. Khachaturian - The Armenian composer, most famous for the Sabre Dance from his ballet Gayaneh, writes some really great rhythms and percussion parts in other places in that opera, and also has an excellent violin concerto (one of the things that I tend to like) and writes some damn fine orchestral works, including some excellent pipe organ parts.
2. Kronos Quartet - The top string quartet for stretching boundaries, building excellent albums featuring contemporary composers from all over the world. They've done everything from Thelonious Monk to Jimi Hendrix to Franz Liszt. Check out the albums Pieces of Africa, Night Prayers, and Caravan for some of their best work.
3. Kansas (the band, in general) and Kerry Livgren (the guitarist, in particular) - I love Kerry's solo work, particularly the parts that were matched with the mid-'90s Odyssey into the Minds Eye video. The stuff with Kansas is a lot more well known, but still exceptional.
4. Kari Rueslatten - former singer of The 3rd and the Mortal and a third of Storm, she has an exceptional voice.
5. Kosher Delis - pastrami on rye, please. Or, even better, damn good bagels and cream cheese.
6. Kashmir - One of my two favorite Led Zeppelin tunes, second only to The Battle of Evermore.
7. Kielbasa - Hey, what can I say, I'm one fourth Polish. Although kielbasa can be eaten any time of year, it absolutely must be served at Easter dinner. Two kinds. Fresh - boiled, and Hilshire Farms - broiled or cooked up in a frying pan.
8. Kung Fu - Baguazhang, Hung Gar, and Northern Shaolin, in particular. I've mined the latter for sword techniques, and I'm studying both of the former on account of my kids interest in the Avatar series on Nickelodeon. Actually, all three styles are used in the show, but my Northern Shaolin materials are buried in boxes in the cellar so I haven't been studying it for a while. =)
9. Kids - Mine, in particular. aequitaslevitas, Rachel, and Mr. B. Best kids ever.
10. Kiss - I expect this is why I got this letter. Back when I was a kid, the only band I listened to was Kiss. I still like 'em. The word is good for other meanings as well - I try to encourage smooching scenes whenever I can! =)
