Last night, we finished off the last few stones of the foundation edging in front of the kiwi trellis - I think it took two, maybe three rocks.
A significantly larger quantity was hauled by Justin, coming from a pile a neighbor offered up to us, and placed by me along the stretch in front of the porch. To be fair, two wheelbarrows full were dropped at the top of the driveway, and I had to carry those over... but, yeah, outside of that and one monster rock, I didn't go back and forth all that much...
The area from the front porch to the Stone Stream is now done. Towards the end we used much smaller stones than we'll want to permanently, but it works to make it look nicer for this weekend. In addition to re-doing the last stretch, we'll eventually break out a bit near the beginning when we outline the other side of the front walk. I do need to get mulch in for that, as the yew in that section dries out too quickly. Haven't decided if I want to get a single bag for that one area (former home of the Leyland cypress), or a truckload to top off the rest of the foundation (which needs it, to look nice) and give a good start to the bit along the walk edge.
I expect to be getting a shredder/vacuum soon - at that time I will take up the existing mulch and last autumn's leaves, shred them, and compost them. I can then use that for mulching - putting down a top layer of bark mulch to hold it down and make it purty. That might happen sooner than expected, as Deb informed me the wasps really like to play in all the leaves...
Has anyone ever tried on of those faux wasp nests - I'm thinking one or more might help keep the little warriors away from the living spaces.
